I've ignored advice about using one identity across platforms in order to build a "brand."

I use different names and ids for separate audiences - four (school community, educator, media specialist and personal - which includes some business interactions.). This approach helps me to organize usernames and passwords. Also, I can control connections between separate sites.

That way, I can have multiple sites at an application such as "LibraryThing" for different audiences, without worry about getting wires crossed.

This system of multiple IDs has really helped me stay organized as access to additional tools keeps expanding. It is fairly new and definitely a work-in-progress.
