I am looking for ways to teach note taking skills to 4th and 5th graders. Any proven ideas, Power Points, handouts, websites etc would be welcomed. Thanks.

Hi Amy! I just put together a Research Webquest for my 4th and 5th graders. In the webquest is embedded a Note-Taking slideshow you might be interested in. You can find the webquest at: www.researchwebquest.wikispaces.com. Let me know if this helps! ~Anne
Wow! That is a fabulous creation!
Actually I should point out that I put together the webquest with the help of some of the other librarians in my district, and although I am a brand new LMS, the note-taking lesson was taken from a very experienced librarian who created it and has used it many times.
Hi Amy,

I am starting to teach these skills this year, too. One site that I found with good ideas is:

http://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/lesson/lesson322.shtml

It has 5 lessons for note taking which look good. Our school is looking to adopt the Big6 and Super3 research models but when I have looked through their literature I haven't found a lot about note taking - they do have good tips about defining a thesis, locating and evaluating sources. You might be interested in their site too:

Thanks for asking this question. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the feedback you get. - Kris
These lessons from Education World look great Kris! Thanks for the heads up! The very first link for the Amelia Earhart worksheet is included in my webquest. The other lessons looked equally as good and depending what grade and how much reinforcement the students need, I'm going to be looking into using these also. I'm new to the job and to the Ning, and I'm really loving all the great useful feedback! I'm so glad I joined!
Kris and Anne ~ Thanks so much! The webquest is awesome and the links from Kris are great too. I plan to look more closely at them today on my PREP. I will keep in touch on what I use and how it worked. I start the unit on Monday.
Your note taking webquest is great. I have used a standard pre/post assessment format. Your approach is much more interesting - a dynamic approach to teaching/assessing information literacy skills for intermediate level students. Maggie McCabe
