I need to create a book list using the theme of "perseverance". I am at a high school, but middle/junior high and up would be great. Thanks for your input in advance!

First book that comes to mind is Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (an oldie but still a goodie). The other is Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Try Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson for a non-fiction take on perseverance. Good luck!
Love Caged Bird, and yes, it is a perfect fit. I tried to read Life of Pi and was unsuccessful, but maybe I will try again. :) I just read the picture book, Listen to the Wind about Greg Mortenson's school building efforts, and so had Three Cups of Tea on my radar. I will get it. Thank you, Laura!
Do you have access to NoveList? (powered by EBSCO host)? Here are some I found in the search.

Waiting for Normal by Leslie Conner
Copper Sun by Sharon Draper (slave and indentured servant)
The Fighter by J. Grief (Holocaust)

I like:
Life as We Knew it and
The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer (climate change and survival)

Also
Invitation to the Game
Any of the Dear America series (for lower level readers)
Touching Spirit Bear
The Red Necklace
Hello Tracy,

I am a LIBM student and just starting a new job as a HS librarian next year, so I don't have access to all the subscription tools yet. Thanks so much for doing that search for me! I just ordered Waiting for Normal, and did think of Spirit Bear. Many of the others are brand new to me, so thanks so much! Have a good night.
Carina,

When I am at home, I use the public library portal to databases. I go to my local library website where they have a link to 'databases', then I find the one I am looking for (NoveList in this case) and then when I click on the link, I input my library card #.

Perhaps your library has the same feature?

Tracy
Yayy, Tracy! I was able to get in through our county library system. Now I'm doing a search for immigrant lit for high school, and the results were long. :) Thank you so much for your input as well as the introduction to this new tool. Have a great weekend!
