Stephanie, I heard Chris Harris say "Anything that's blocked can be unblocked." And I've never forgotten it. If you come up with a really good project for blogging (or any other tool) you might be able to persuade them to unblock some of the tools. Maybe start with some book reviews...? or book trailers? Just a thought.

I'm glad to hear about all of your class blogging and suggestions. It's nice to know there are schools out there that are not afraid of technology. My district has everything with blogging capability blocked including articles in the local newspapers. So much for current events assignments.

Has anyone heard of Classpress.com? I'm not sure if its a newsite or not? Teachers can set up classroom accts and monitor each students individual blog. I'm not sure if you can embed code.

I have mostly been using wordpress as it gives you the option of creating pages which gives it a website like feel. But unless you host it on your own server it is definitely not embed freindly -and learners love to embed stuff. So Blogger is a great choice as it comes automatically with a google account. I feel all our learners hould ahve a google account- gives them so much choices in web 2 applications (gmail,googledocs,claenders,picassa) and they all work together.

Edublogs is of course GREAT. It has a wordpress engine but because it is hosted on the edublogs server, it allows for all creative embeds!

I have been using Blogger from Google since April. I really like it. I have invited my 5th-8th graders to comment, guest blog and/or podcast to it. My 7th and 8th grade teachers are planning to make that an option for book reports this year. We will teaching "writing for a blog" as a team. The kids will also get entered in a bi-monthly raffle for every post. Prizes will include local junior high hang-out certificates and the like. I am excited to have this take off.

Laura -- I've been using edublogger (www.edublogger.org). I believe you can create as many blogs as you'd like (free ones have ads, but they don't seem to be too intrusive), and you can set students up as contributors which allows them to write blog posts, but the posts have to be approved before they are actually published.

Looking for a good blog site for high school teacher to use with her students. She would like each student to create their own blog and she also wants to be able to monitor those blogs as an administrator. Any ideas?

Anne - All Hail the Shelving QUEEN! Much respect, my sister! Much respect! I need to reexamine our circulation policies. You know the ... we do it this way because we have ALWAYS done it this way menatality... The beauty of being in that place is being able to be the one that turns everything on its head! LOL
