Michelle, FYI, our students didnot provide a cited slide---we will be stressing credit must be given with each picture's link and music. http://lmc.abington.k12.pa.us

You go into Senior High
Catalog
at the FIND - type in digital book talk
hit enter
all of those books that you see (historical fiction, nonfiction & realistic fiction)
click on the DETAILS button
Under EXPLORE - you will see in bold DIGITAL BOOK TALK or ANIMOTO BOOK TALK - just click on it and watch.
Remember these are student booktalks----we like Story of a Girl because it is good but also has mistakes we point out to students...to avoid when they create theirs.

Hi bj neary-
Could you send the link to your library catalog? I would love to see some examples of the trailers your students did in Photostory3.
Thanks- Michelle

Our reading students make digital book trailers after the have read a novel and rather than doing a book report or other end product, we work with the students and teachers using PhotoStory3 to create an short enticing book trailer that will hook other readers. We then upload it to our library catalog and the students can view it.

Sandra,
Where do you get the images you use in Animoto? Do you do voice over as well?

I'm quietly revising teacher independent reading lists incorporating more YA lit and removing the titles, no one really has a burning desire to read (Babbitt, The Far Pavilions, really?). I say quietly because I have to be a little sneaky about dropping the new titles when some of them aren't looking.

I used animoto for doing a short video to promote the books on our High School Sequoyah Masterlist (Oklahoma) http://animoto.com/play/207eyM14DAoSD1fnKt1SPQ?autostart=true. I think it would be easy to adapt to just highlighting one book. We have what we call Flashlight Readers which we post podcasts to. Check it out at http://podcast2.mid-del.net/groups/saustin/

Has anyone used Animoto to create booktalks? It'd be great to see some examples if anyone out there has some to share. Thanks.

Hi Deborah-
I am so excited about your posting regarding "Book Trailers"- believe it or not I wasn't even aware that they existed until I read your post! I teach at a small International School in Burma and our Internet access if very limited (You Tube is blocked as are many other sites). Fortunately, this Ning is not blocked and so I am enjoying being connected with other TLs around the world.
I would love to hear from others regarding websites (besides You Tube) that post 'book trailers' and book movies. I would like to add this element to my library's website and possibily create some trailers with my Middle school kids. Thanks for posting your links!

I love going to James Patterson's website ReadKiddoRead.com. He has his books divided into grade levels and into types. It also has book reviews and a place for others to add suggestions. Then of course I use Book List.

I'm curious about YA book trailers. Do you use them with your teen readers to get them hooked a bit before reading? So many good ones, including the one for WINTERGIRLS by Laurie Halse Anderson (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIjyJ_tqedc) and the just-out SURF MULES by G. Neri (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wXWMMFNtI4) ... both may help reluctant readers to get interested in topics that interest them. Your thoughts? Use them- yes or no? Others you recommend? Plus, how many of you have teens who create their own book movies?
