Greetings Laurie,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Hi Laurie,

I wanted to let you know that MIT university is running a nationwide, online contest to get teens to teach other SAT/ACT vocabulary through the power of user-generated flashcards. The goal is to build a resource that is free and fun to use.

There will be a cash prize at the end and iTunes giveaways along the way. The event is hosted at Brainyflix.com.

If you know of any teachers/students who'd be interested, please let them know! Full details are here

Thanks,
Jack

While I miss CMS and Mary Clark (my principal there) immensely, I am very happy here. I was excited to see your name in joining here, especially since one of my roles is to "check out" and approve new members. We are definitely working a library during exciting times, no?

Hey Laurie!! Good thing I knew you--typically we decline those who join but don't fill out the profile enough to let us know they are really in the profession. Welcome aboard! You will enjoy the learning, sharing, and networking that happens here. Nings have rss feeds too, so you can subscribe and follow from a reader.
