What is the name of your school?
I'm Susan Geiger, and I've been a high school librarian in Hayward California for (yikes!) 25 years. During that time we have moved from Apple IIe's to becoming a laptop school next year. I also partner with Dave Hoffman editor of MultiMedia & Internet@Schools to organize and moderate the Internet@Schools conferences put on by Information Today.
When I'm not in the library I can often be found on the water.

We’re seeking presenters for our Internet at Schools conference, to be held in Monterey, California, October 20-21, 2008. Mind Set VS. Skill Set

This morning we had some visitors from another high school. They came to see what we were "doing with technology". The assistant principal for instruction and I met with them and we had a lively discussion about the laptop program we are initiating next year. They asked the usual questions about laptop theft, breakage, and battery charging as well as how we planned to provide technical support. Then they asked about what we are doing about technology resistant teachers. At this point my… Continue

Hi Susan! Nice to meet you and thanks for joining the information fluency project group!

Although my work with 21cif is based out of Aurora Illinois, I actually live in Southern California. I earned my first masters degree in Online Teaching and Learning with Cal-State East Bay, was Cal-State Hayward, so we've got a little geography in common.

I just searched up MultiMedia&Internet@Schools. (It just when into my del.icio.us account. ) Looks great! I edit the Full Circle Resource Kits for the 21cif project, and do project writing for ISTE. I love both print and the Internet as a way of publishing.

With refreshed nets 3 focused on Information Fluency, I'm hoping we're finally reaching critical mass.

See you online, I look forward to exchanging ideas with you.

Susan, It always makes me happy to meet folks who are using the materials and visiting the site.

It was at this very moment, reading your reply that I realized that most of my 'sense of community' with Library Media folks comes from attending face to face events in the mid-west and via the online classes I teach for 21CIF.

It's terrific to be able to just connect online in an atmosphere of mutual interest.

See you online!

Susan-
Good to meet you too! I am spending the next several evenings going over my notes and trying out all the websites and applications I learned about at that great conference. So far, I'm doing well on tumblr.com but having trouble trying to figure out moblogs. Are you doing moblogs or have any tips on them?

Greetings Susan,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit.

We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
