Greetings Gretchen,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Sounds great. I will have a draft to you by Thursday. My sister just came into town, and I want to visit a bit; but I will be working on it. I hate speeches, and I am definitely on the wrong side of this one. I hope I don't get booed and heckled. Thanks, Mark

Hi,
I started working on our book challenge. It was hard to find the information on the North Thurston site, so here is the link if you haven't found it. Thanks, Mark

Those resources look great! Whatever side you what to take is fine with me. I can be the parent or the TL. Just let me know which one you prefer. I will have a draft of my bulleted argument by next week. My email address is mgudger@comcast.net. Please email me so I have your email address, so I can send you my part.
Thanks, Mark

This is such a great example (your home building) to use with students. They will have such experiences in their own lives, and the sooner they know that everything is research, the better! I do think the internet has changed this idea of research a lot, though. I used to think of it as getting the magazine (after weeks of waiting) from the librarian, or taking notes from a book ,but now they "google it" and that is research too, but they don't call it that. what do they call it? googling?

I have read most of the Harry Potter series, but it has been awhile. Because there are seven different books, it might serve us better to focus on “Tango Makes Three” because it was the most challenged book of 2006 and 2007. I think that the arguments for and against this book are more clear cut, too. What do you think? I have not actually read this picture book, but have read a lot about it. Here is a link:
