I am hoping to start to generate a list of excellent author/illustrators in the circuit and hopefully start to develop some cost-sharing between schools when we bring authors into the region. Thanks for posting your thoughts!

Another option is online author visits. We had a skype visit with Ken Nesbitt (poetry for kids) last year for 30 minutes and it was really well received and VERY inexpensive!

In Shanghai, we have a great supportive network (Shanghai Librarians Network) and we try to share authors. It is costly.  Michelle, Nanjing is a quick train ride away, I hope that you might be able to join us.  We have librarians from Hangzhou and Suzhou who join...not every month, but when they can.  Join us on our Yahoo group (shanghai librarians).  We try to meet once a month at different libraries around the city. It is great to see all the creative ideas that people have.

Webex is another (more reliable connection) if skype gives you a problem.  I had a skype disaster...worked 5 minutes before and then locked up during the assembly with students..Small groups best.

Thanks Barbara! I look forward to becoming a part of the Shanghai group very much. I have a few other librarian friends in the region already- Suji Gupta at SIS Shekou and Katrina Lehman in Hangzou. It will be so nice to have a support network. I have been a sole K-12 librarian for 4 years now and it can feel very lonely at times-

We got Emily Gravett at BISS for Book Week a couple of weeks ago and she was awesome. She is the author of Spells, The Odd Egg, Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears (winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal), Monkey and Me and Meerkat Mail.  It is actually a bit difficult to categorize her…she is both an illustrator and a writer. She often offers drawing workshops too.

Can any of you share your dates for author visits in 2012-2013? We are setting up our calendar now, and it would be great to know when other libraries are planning author visits, in order to potentially share costs. Thanks for sharing!

Hi all!

We are looking at getting Marc Levitt visit Beijing BISS Intl. School for our Book Week (March 18th-22nd). I heard he focuses on stories about growing up and the kids' experiences as TCKs and moving around globally.

Can you give me any feedback about him?

John Agee came to our school last year and he was incredible! I'm hoping to get him back again this coming academic year.
