Good morning. I am brand new around here but not brand new to librarianship. In fact this is my 10th years; however, I have been blessed to get a fantastic job in a fantastic school with a very supportive Principal.
He would like me to run a coffee bar for the students. He has bought the supplies and such but will leave the rest of the details to me.
I am looking for ideas on the effective management of this. I welcome any ideas you can share.
Thank you!

I have a coffee bar in my library called the Word Cafe. My name is MIllie and I am the librarian at East High School in the Rochester City School District in Rochester, NY. The cafe sells coffee, tea, cocoa, cookies, muffins and brownies. Believe it or not, there are no behavioral issues surrounding the cafe. The special ed class handles the bar each day with their teacher. It gives them work skills to build a resume. The students don't leave their garbage around. We have a 42" flat screen TV on the wall. It creates a nice environment.
Hi. Thank you for responding! May I ask what you charge for the beverages? We will be a pretty small operation at first. We are going to have a Keurig and the K-cups. It is brand new for us so I am looking for all the ideas I can get.
By the way - that is an excellent idea to have the SPED kids help for life skills. I was already thinking about having kids do it so that is an excellent idea.
Thank you for sharing.
Everything is $1:00. They keep it simple. The special ed kids have a TA/para overseeing the operation but they clean the coffee and tea pots and the tables. It's a nice gig. I'll take pictures.
Ok, perfect. Thank you so much!
Hi Stacey,
We opened a new high school library media center with a coffee bar addition. Per my secretary's suggestion, it would be better if you shot me some questions or called me at 215-643-8900 ext. 2026. I would be happy to help!

Thank you Susan. I will give you a call later.
