A community for teacher-librarians and other educators

I've been charged with re-doing our school website (using Sharpschool, which I'm not sure Im a fan of yet, but that's another discussion). We have been asked to make three links (non negotiable) that are titled For Parents, For Teachers/Staff, and For Students. I have some ideas but want to hear from others. What links should branch off these headings? Note that Media Center will be a presence as well, and I am not sure I should overlap links, but with these headings, I don't know how I can help it? Please suggest some links or types of content you feel would be appropriate. Thanks!

Hi Cathy,

We have the same three categories on our school website at: http://www.isd77.org (Look under the Resources tab in the menu bar across the top of the screen.)

I am sure we do not have the be-all and end-all of resources listed, but this seems to be a dynamic area as the links are user-driven.

Good luck!

Doug
Hi Cathy!

I too have the responsibility for the school website. (it was the only way to get to do the library site)

You can take a look to see if there is anything helpful. I've been toying with embedding applications on the library site- even put twitter in there for our magazines etc.

Hope you can find cool things to do too! We want to see your site when you are done!

Thanks Doug and Guy. I will share when I feel it is ready. But I must say I am less than impressed so far with how "limiting" it feels. Maybe when they release us to use more of the 2.0 tools it offers (which right now are under lock and key) I'll like it more, feel more ownership, and then maybe pride with our product. I'll be sure to share.
Hi Cathy,

I am also responsible for the library website at my school. I find it rather limiting that you have been asked to make three links. In the two years that I have been working on my website, I have added content based on the needs or interest of my staff. Some, like the school book club, I have supported by adding a web page for them. It is difficult to determine how many navigation links are needed when you start building a website.

Here is the link to my website:

Hi Cathy,
I am sorry I am so late to reply - I have the same headings - feel free to use anything helpful from mine: www.palisadessd.org/phslibrary
