We use the calendar in First Class. Not sure if your district uses FC or not. I just asked IT Services to create one calendar for each area. I manage them. Teachers can put in bookings but only I can change or edit a booking once it is made.

At this time of year many school librarians are writing annual reports. These reports are a gold mine of ideas for other librarians so I thought how could these be shared? I've wanted to try out Google Spreadsheets sharing option for a while and s...

Playing with Toondo

I just spent the last two days trying to move into the 21st century. We are (and I blush) finally moving to an automated system. The cataloguers are hard at work in my library as I type. It's going to be a steep learning curve and as with all technology there will be glitches but I am excited about the new possibilities that will open up. I spent some time playing with Toondo today and offer my effort below. I think it will be a great tool for introducing kids to things on my library website.

Group del.icio.us?

Has anyone tried using del.icio.us with a group? I was thinking of setting up an account for our secondary librarians group and having everyone post great sites as they come across them. It would have the advantage of listing sites that are really specific to our local curriculum. Usually we just pass sites to each other using email but this would have the advantage of being a searchable and permanent location.

Blogging

I've been doing some blogging for about a month now and am exploring how to make students more a part of the library online. Joyce's site has been invaluable. Feeling a bit as if I need a translator by my side, especially when things don't work. Hoping to learn/share lots here.

Hi Lesley,
I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.

Thanks for the positive comments. This is my first (well second, but definitely the best) foray into the world of social networking. How exciting to receive a response and to have made two friends already!

Hi Lesley--
grin--so it too me over a month to find this! I'm SO not into social networking mode..but starting to get back into it. Blogging again, etc. There is REALLY a lot to do here. Average book dates to 1968, no information literacy curriculum in place--or any other document, either (selection policy, challenge procedure, etc.) Bad, but kind of cool because it gives me plenty to do!

Hey, are you interested in being a Beta tester for Yahoo? I did it when they were testing their new search assist stuff, and apparently they have something new in the works. They want more librarians on the "team." here's the link, you'd like to do it. It's pretty fun, doesn't take long, and has some cool prizes, if anything like last time. (I won some amazing bluetooth headphones). Someone else won a GPS, etc.

Here's the link

Hi Lesley--
Got your comment, but couldn't reply through Blogger, sooo..

Isn't that cool?

There's a program called Skitch (Mac only, unfortunately) that I'm beta testing. It allows you to take screen pics or upload photographs, then mark on them in various ways.

If you have a Mac, here's the link to request an invitation.

Thanks. You're right, it's really fun. I'm doing a workshop in a couple of weeks and looking forward to introducing it to everyone!

Lesley,
A colleague went to the inservice on May 26th and just raved about it. It's a bit funny that things I have been saying all year and he 'blew' off, he found absolutely fantastic at the seminar. Just goes to show that old dogs can learn new tricks.

Well done! :-)

Hi Leslie,

Are you coming with ERAC to the Comox Valley on the 26th? I didn't sign up for it...there were only limited spots available and some newbies at my school snagged them.
