Name of Your School / Library / Organization:
I am a graduate student at Sam Houston State University. I am studying to be a librarian in the IMLS program. I have been a teacher for 5 years at the high school level teaching English. Currently, I am teaching English IV (senior level). I teach in Brownsville Texas at Lopez High School. In addition to my Internet for Librarians course, I am currently enrolled in my Internship course where I am learning the ins and outs of being a librarian. I am very fortunate to be working with two experienced librarians who also happen to be graduates of Sam Houston State.
As for likes and dislikes, I enjoy sports, both playing and watching, and I am an avid follower of sports like college football and basketball, as well as professional football, baseball, and basketball with passing interests in others like mixed martial arts, golf, and, at times, hockey. I am looking forward to graduating in July 2011.

My Blog Introduction

I'm very happy to be a part of this class and a part of this amazing program here at Sam Houston for Library Science.  My appreciation for library professionals grows as each day passes.  There is so much more to being a librarian than just shelving and processing books.  I'm really lucky to be a part of such a great program to become a librarian myself.  I'm looking forward to graduation and, hopefully soon, to becoming a librarian myself.

So, now that I've shared some…

Greetings Jason James,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen
