Hi Nancy,
I'm slowly making progress. I'm on the CASL Ning also. I'm ready to Skype with the CASL Board Tuesday afternoon with a stereo headset and microphone - Su and I did a test run Saturday night.

The only thing that's not working is the RSS feed using Feedblitz for the CASL Blog information to come directly into my computer but I'll continue to work on it.

Yes Nancy- I did see that you posted my entry. Now, I'd better hurry up and write some more. Been enjoying working with lots o' teachers this week- voice thread, databases and persuasive essays, all that and more!

Hi Nancy,
Thankfully we are only a two library district so the district job is not so bad. However, I am finding it challenging to stay focused on library programs with all the classes, being DAAC chair and implementing a mentoring program which includes mentoring 5 new teachers! It's getting easier as the school year settles in and routines come back. I am really excited by opportunities unfolding and the reactions of the kids as the new books arrive.

Nancy-
I feel the same way - you are so knowledgeable and such a professional. Did you see our Call for Presentations email? We'd love to have you submit something. Best - Shelley

Hi Nancy!
Just joined! Wanted to let you know that when I tried to connect via Nance's message, it wouldn't let me connect. I had to go back to your message to sign up. The error message indicated that the link couldn't be passed on through another message and used. Does that make sense?

Thanks for replying. I was on a task force that created our districts ET/IL standards a few years ago and it just went by the wayside. What do you hear about new/revised info lit standards coming (from ALA I believe)? Also, have you heard anything about the state library correlating the IL standards with the standards in each of the content subject areas? I wish they would hurry and do that. I think it would help what we do to finally "click" with the content teachers.

Okay, my antenna went up. What software do you use to evaluate info lit?

I'm Published! The Role of School Librarians Today

I was surprised a few months ago by an email from the editor from Ed Tech Magazine inviting me to write a column on the role of school librarians in today's schools. It illustrated for me excatly how inter-connected we have all become. How did he come to ask me for this? A mention in David Warlick's blog following an opportunity to talk with him at dinner, prior to an all-day workshop with teachers in my school district caught his eye. Also pr… Continue

A Day In The Life Of A “School District Library Media Coordinator”

7:30 am: Small committee meeting to evaluate 8th grade “technology” literacy assessment test pilot data. Yes, we understand that you can’t really adequately assess these skills in a multiple choice test. However, this is what our middle school principals want. Okay – for one year. After all, the data might be very interesting. We decided last month that information literac

School Year 07-08 - We're off and Running!

I don't know about the rest of you, but this has been the rockiest start to the school year I can remember. The new technologies our district has implemented will eventually (I hope!) make things better . We have a new Internet authentication system, and are struggling with the process of helping students log in - when so many have difficulties remembering their user name & password. The great fear is that students will stop trying to use the online catalog all together.

On a brigh… Continue
