Please vote for our video. Last chance!

Hello all,

Shameless plug, but important as well. We have a very differnt way of acquiring technology for our school. we enter video competitions. My wife and I entered a contest sponsored by the National Parks Foundation to try and win a state of the art camera for our elementary school. Our video is a tongue in cheek look at our trip to Big Bend National Park. We need votes to get the prize! If you've enjoyed my videos I ask that you go to the site, register (it's short and safe!) and… Continue

Help us win some great technology!

Hello all,

My wife and I entered a contest sponsored by the National Parks Foundation to try and win a state of the art camera for our elementary school. Our video is a tongue in cheek look at our trip to Big Bend National Park. We need votes to get the prize! If you've enjoyed my videos I ask that you go to the site, register (it's short and safe!) and vote for our video now through September 23rd. You can vote once a day so vote early and often. Please pass this on to everyone. We really… Continue

Glogster!

Most of you have probably heard of Glogster but if you haven't, I suggest you try it out! The .edu.glogster site is now private and is an amazing tool for student work. This year our school theme is Star Trek and I created a Star Trek themed Glog web for our school. It will continue to grow as the year progresses but if you would like to see it go to:
http://mckilloplibrary.edu.glogster.com/McKillop-Home/
I will be posting more book reviews there as we get into the school year.

HELP A TEACHER GET SOME TECHNOLOGY

My wife and I produced a video for the Interwrite Learning contest and lo and behold we are in the finals! This is a $15,000 contest to get her some badly needed technology for her classroom. Problem is we are in the public voting stage of the competition and up against much larger districts with a lot of voting power. If you have liked my videos I ask that you go register and vote for her video. I admit that I am biased in this case, but I know how much she needs this equipment and her…

Enjoyed the videos - let me know what kind of feedback you get - they are, or can be, a bit on the edge. Any friend of Joyce is a friend of mine.

Thanks.

ALA direct is the free newletter for ALA members, and this was the Aug 1st issue. It looks like they don't archive the newsletters on the ALA website. I did try to forward my copy of the newsletter to your school email. I also forwarded it to Julie and Jenn. Our group needs to see this when we have our first meeting! You are inspiring me to get with it on my videos! ~S

Doug, I've seen your parodies on teachertube.com
how do you deal with copyright issues? For instance, I created a parody of Friends just to train teachers in technology and I'm getting all kinds of grief from our district people, even though it'll never be shown to the public or students.....

Just writing for permission to show your American Idle video to my students. What a kid-friendly, engaging way to convey the importance of using authoritative sources! I'd love to show it to the other librarians in my district, too. Thanks.

Hi Doug,
I've been having quite a time trying to use your America Idle video. Whether I view it via Teacher Librarian Network or Teacher Tube, it keeps freezing up. I had one of our techs check it out, and he said it's not a problem on our end and that it must be on the TLN and TT ends. Would you be able to send the video to me as an attachment to an email? I think it's brilliant and I really want to show it to my students. Thanks.

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
